“Little Otik” is based on Jan Svankmajer's
film of the same name which is, in turn, based on
the Czech folktale "Otesánek" by K J Erben.

“Little Otik” is the story of a married couple who are
unable to conceive. One day, the husband digs up a
tree stump that resembles an infant and delivers it to
his wife. She cares so deeply for it that “Otik” comes
to life.

The couple soon discover, however, that their child
has a bottomless appetite. It devours all of the food
in the house before moving on to the furniture and
eventually, humans. In the end, the wife is forced to
destroy the fruit of her own love to prevent further
disaster.
